We believe each child is endowed with individual capabilities and the capacity to succeed. In keeping with this philosophy, we have designed our instructional program to be pupil-centered and academically sound conducted in a nurturing environment.

The talents and skills are diversified. In order to develop these talents to the fullest, one has to be exposed to varied opportunities and be given a chance to improve for growth. To answer these needs, the following programs are freely offered to help our pupils acquire the skills and values necessary for them to develop into responsible and competent individual.

Character Development Program

Character Development Program is based on the philosophy which recognizes the child in his fundamental relationship with God, fellowmen and self. It provides the students the content and experiences directed toward the inculcation of spiritual and civic values and the development of a good Filipino.

The classroom serves as a laboratory in which students and teachers explore and practice ethical and moral standards in daily living. Following the principle that character is basically "caught" and not "taught", provision is made that the school supplements the effort of parents and community in forming the character of the student.

Since OICSF is a non-sectarian school, Character Development Activities(CDA) is offered in grade school curriculum. Aside from values integration in different subject areas, part of pupil's values formation is their active participation in religious activities.

Religious activities undertaken are:

  1. Monthly First Friday Mass
  2. First Holy Communion for Grade 3
  3. Celebration of Rosary Month
  4. Weekly Catechism Classes
  5. September 8 Celebration - Mama Mary's Birthday
  6. Feast of the Immaculate Conception

Remedial Programs / School Reading Program

A special program for children with learning difficulties is the remedial program in Reading and Math. Selection of subjects is based on the diagnostic tests given at the beginning of the school year and grade point averages of their report card. In reading, the basic is on oral reading and comprehension skills. Reference materials with reading exercises on a sequential form is applied from Grades 3 - 6 while for the lower grades, DISTAR exercises are utilized.

Parents are called for a meeting to make them aware of their children's poor performance. Alternative solutions are formulated so that follow-up can be done at home. On the part of teacher, well-planned activities on the basis of pupil's specific difficulties to enable the students experience success in the learning process and develop self-confidence. They are taught how to manage their study time. In class, academic needs and problems are met through individual and small discussions. Continuous evaluation with pupil's progress is done on monthly basis and parents are encouraged to come and see their teachers so that continuous follow-up and support can be extended to the pupils.

In addition to, a school reading program adopted from the Department of Education called Every Child A Reader Program ( ECARP ) is administered by the school to evaluate the reading and comprehension level of a student. This is to help students enhance and enrich their learning abilities academically.

Achievement Programs

Summer Day Camp for Preschool and Grade School Students

Our goal every summer is to provide children with a program that is a balance of learning, play, quiet time and recreation. We strongly believe that children need to have a respite from their busy school year schedules and to have time & energy for new learning and creative process.

We have constructed a program to match many interest as well as spark new ones.  Because we emphasize the arts in summer, we encourage your child to take advantage of these courses that are not normally available during the school year because of time restrictions and teacher availability.  Above all, our hope is that your children thoroughly enjoy this wonderful season.

The teaching of reading is systematic and sequential.  Learning of skills is dependent on mastery of previous skills.  Our goal is to teach all children the reading skills necessary, at their appropriate instructional level.

Every day from 7:30 - 8:00 in the morning, students go to their phonics reading class and are instructed in their designated skill group.  The practice reading daily at their ability level.  The grade lever reading program later in the day includes a literature program and reading comprehension skills.
